Journal Entry: Thu Nov 27, 2014, 7:24 PM

12 Years Later.
I had to work early today and got off an hour ago.  But through most of the day I wished I had written this journal this morning.
I'm just amazed that it's been twelve years since the premier of our beloved movie 'Treasure Planet'.
I can still remember seeing it that day in our small town theater that had only two theater rooms in it.  And there were only a few people in the room there.  As a matter of fact, I'm sure that I was the only person in my high school who saw it because nobody else had heard about it.  That's one of the reasons why the film didn't make the blockbusters.  Lack of advertisement and all.

But I'm still proud of being a fan of such a great movie that is overlooked.  Even now, I look to my right side at this moment and see my plush of Silver whom I have had on my side at night for almost twelve years now since I got him the following December.

So, even though this journal's a tad late, let's all enjoy our Thanksgiving and the twelfth anniversary of one of the best yet underrated Disney films of all time.

Hi!
So I was wondering... What was your inspiration for Marina? What inspired you to create her?

Well, it's a long story.

But if you really wanna know, here it goes.

It all started back in 1999 when I was 14, my best friend and I were BIG fans of Sailor Moon and DBZ.  This was about a year or so before the season that introduced the Outer Senshi to the US and before we even knew there even were Outer Senshi other than Pluto.  Therefore, the two of us started creating and drawing our own senshi and crossover fanfiction of our favorite animes.  She made the senshi of the constellations led by Sailor Andromeda and I made up my own Sailor Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.  While working on them, I grew a liking to my creation of Neptune since she would have the power of the ocean and I love the sea.  I named her Marina Seabreeze as her civilian form.  I gave her hair a little like Jessica Rabbit since that's one of my favorite styles and had her be age 16 since I couldn't wait to be that age for some reason then.
Pretty soon, the two of us finally learned that there already were Outer Senshi and even Senshi from beyond (Starlights, Galaxia, ect.)  We were like :ohmygod: .  But we still continued making our own different anime fanfiction crossovers.  I got to watch the new season of Sailor Moon, and I went crazy over the two new senshi Uranus and Neptune.  Didn't take long for Michiru Kaioh, or as I knew her then, Michelle, to become my favorite character of all.  However, for some reason, I still couldn't let go of MY Sailor Neptune and I just continued making my fanfic replacing Michiru with Marina.  I was a weirdo.  I admit it.
About a year passes and my story came through some changes.  I changed the name Marina 'Seabreeze' because it just sounded like a deodorant brand.  It was then I had watch the old movie 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' found the name 'Seadrift', which was a brand name of soap in the movie.  I just like the sound of it, so I changed it all to 'Marina Seadrift'.
It was that same year, I think, I decided to give Marina a love interest in my fanfic.  My heart was set on my anime crush at the time.  Piccolo from DBZ, or Colo-chan as I called him.  All through high school, I kept drawing pictures of Marina and Colo-chan as a couple and wrote the story down in my computer for my eyes only.  Things were going good until 2002.
That was when I started reading up about DragonBallGT.  Back then, I actually thought that this continuing story of DBZ was written by it creator Akira Toriyama and that it for real.  When I found the Japanese episode of when Colo-chan dies and this time for sure, I was completely heartbroken and really cried for weeks.  My biggest anime crush was killed off and left me not knowing how to continue my story of him and Marina, knowing that if I wrote this event down, it would leave Marina very heartbroken for her lost love.  I just didn't know how to go on.
But a miracle happened.  I went to see in the theater 'Treasure Planet'.  The moment I saw the beautiful animation of Glen Keane on the character John Silver, my heart was healed and I was starting to fall in love with Disney animation again as I did when I was kid.  Around the same time, I played the game 'Kingdom Hearts' and I suddenly came up with a whole new idea for Marina Seadrift.  While this idea was coming around, Treasure Planet came to DVD and I watched it almost every day.  It didn't take long when I started to have a crush on John Silver.  It was settled for me then.  I started to continue writing and had Marina slowly fall in love with Silver.
The weird part about this, it was still a crossover with Sailor Moon, DBZ, and gradually moving into Disney.  As college was in its first year, I was starting to feel that it was getting crazy to blend in my favorite animes with Disney.  So, at last, I just decided to set my old story on floppy discs away to the attic (or I think my mom threw most of the old art away), and start all over creating a new story of Marina called 'Faithful Hearts'.
That following year in college, I was introduced to DA and joined it.  As I was putting in my drawings and ideas of my brand new story of the new life of Marina Seadrift, I was given a lot of advice on how to improve her.  At first, I was really stubborn about it and didn't take the advice and critiques, which ended up with me getting trolled and all that.
During my senior year of college, I was starting to take some of the advice and started to do a few changes in Marina and the story.  However, I was still getting trolled a lot and pretty soon, my account on DA was hacked.  All of my work got deleted, but I had the administrators banned the hacker and they had me start over again on a new account.  That was six years ago now.
During those six years, Marina has been going through a whole lot more changes.  The story 'Faithful Hearts' went through a few upgrades and soon was changed to the title "Faith of the Heart" after one of my favorite songs by Rod Stewart.  More and more improvements were coming around thanks to a few of my ideas and a whole lot of great advice from others on DA.  Pretty soon, Marina Seadrift and her love with John Silver was becoming more popular on DA and fewer trolls came around which kinda shows that she really has improved.  She may not be a perfect character just yet, but she will be getting there, maybe.

That pretty much narrows it down.  Hope it's not too long to read.
